What You Need to Know About ODYSSEY^® Batteries from EnerSys®

One of the essential functions of an RV battery is to help start the vehicle. The starter in an RV requires a much larger starting current than the typical car or truck. What’s the Secret?

There are many different types of deep-cycle RV batteries out there. At EnerSys^®, our ODYSSEY^® batteries are engineered with Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) and proprietary Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) technology. This gives our batteries a considerable advantage over others on the market.

Why is this the case? The typical AGM batteries contain plates that are manufactured using recycled lead. Additives are needed to make the plates rigid. ODYSSEY^® batteries, on the other hand, have plates made of 99 percent pure lead rather than lead alloys.

Also, the plates in an ODYSSEY^® battery are thinner – as a result, we can fit more of them inside a battery. The more plates, the more power a battery can provide. Another benefit of using TPPL technology is that it self-discharges much slower than a conventional lead acid battery. That’s why ODYSSEY^® batteries can sit for as long as two years before needing to be charged.
