ODYSSEY® Marine Dual Purpose Batteries Power Equipment to Monitor Weather as Recommended by the Creators of National Safe Boating Week

The National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) are celebrating the annual National Safe Boating Week, May 22-28, 2021. The National Safe Boating Week partnership of the NWS and the NSBC, now in its 21st year, was created to encourage boaters to follow health and safety guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local officials to ensure responsible boating. The effort emphasizes the consistent use of life jackets and paying close attention to marine weather forecasts from the NWS.

Awareness of weather conditions requires ongoing monitoring of NWS updates by having a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio (NWR) receiver. Both organizations recommend having at least two communications devices onboard that can operate when wet, such as satellite phones, Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB), Very High Frequency (VHF) radios and Personal Locator Beacons (PLB).

Given the importance of reliable communications in fostering safety, a dependable dual purpose marine battery will provide the power to start the engine and run the trolling motor, when needed, while simultaneously powering the various critical onboard electronic communications equipment that provide weather notifications and emergency communications.

ODYSSEY® Marine Dual Purpose batteries are manufactured with a military inspired design and Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) technology to offer slower self-discharge, less corrosion, faster recharging and better endurance in harsh environments. Their compressed Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) plate separators protect against high-impact shock and vibration that cause premature battery failure.

If the boat is employed only seasonally, TPPL technology helps protect your batteries from getting to a low State of Charge (SOC) that is common when batteries are irregularly used. Pure lead plates can be made thinner, so more fit in the same battery footprint for greater active surface area. More surface area means more power, up to triple the cranking power of equally sized conventional flooded batteries. TPPL technology also enables ODYSSEY® Marine Dual Purpose batteries to provide 400 charge/recharge cycles to 80 percent Depth of Discharge (DOD) and offer a shelf life of up to two years (three times that of conventional lead acid batteries) before they need recharging.

A dependable battery that delivers ample power for starting, trolling and electronic devices can help ensure that a boating excursion will be safe and enjoyable. Help celebrate National Boating Safety Week by powering your boat with ODYSSEY® Marine Dual Purpose batteries with TPPL technology.
