The EnerSys ODYSSEY® Connect battery monitoring system has been paramount in Penske’s recent 12-volt electrical test fleet system evaluations. Paired with ODYSSEY® ODX-ACE31 batteries, the ODYSSEY® Connect system has allowed us the ability to track and analyze the power performance of our tractors, Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) and liftgate trailers. The ability to peek into how a battery is surviving in the vehicle has been invaluable to our fleet productivity and uptime.
For example, by utilizing the ODYSSEY® Connect battery monitoring system to analyze battery temperature in an under-cab battery box application, we can see the internal battery temperature rather than just the surface temperature. This allows us to focus on how to isolate/direct heat for maximum temperature reduction.
We also use the system for our voltage drop and battery pack balance investigations. Being able to review historical raw ODYSSEY® ACE battery data allows us to see system inefficiencies from certain batteries in a pack that’s carrying most of the starting load to batteries that are not receiving enough charge to reach full capacity.
With the ability to view warning and safety notifications via Bluetooth® on Apple® or Android™ smart devices, we can review a variety of battery performance trends including State of Charge (SOC), State of Health (SOH), voltage, temperature and battery history.
Increasing battery life is very important at Penske because it helps provide our customers with increased uptime as well as aiding our sustainability goals. The ODYSSEY® Connect battery monitoring system gives us the intel to achieve these objectives – both in the near- and long-term.
