EnerSys Enlists 12-Year-Old European Drag Racer as Latest ODYSSEY® Battery Sponsor

EnerSys (NYSE: ENS), the global leader in stored energy solutions for industrial applications and the manufacturer of ODYSSEY® batteries, is pleased to welcome Candra Redshaw to its team of ODYSSEY® battery sponsorships. Candra, a fearless 12-year-old girl from Darlington, England, is gearing up for success on the racetrack, as she battles it out against some of the fastest young drivers in Europe during the 2024 British Junior Drag Racing season.

Currently placed at number four in the competition, Candra competes in an ODYSSEY® battery branded Junior Dragster, which goes from 0-60mph in just over three seconds, reaching speeds of up to 85mph. The impressive car was inherited from her eldest brother, Harry (age 16), a former British and French Champion, who is making his debut in the adult category this season. This year, Candra will also be competing alongside her brother, Damien (age 13), for the go at several championship titles.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Redshaw family and supporting motorsport at grass roots level,” said Dave McMullen, Senior Director of Global Marketing, Transportation & Specialty at EnerSys. “It has been a fantastic journey so far since initiating our ODYSSEY® battery sponsorship. We’ve seen Harry win both British and European titles in the junior category and watched him progress into racing in a Ford Mustang® vehicle at senior events, while Damion continues to make a name for himself on the junior drag racing circuit. This looks set to be an exciting season as Candra brings a whole new dynamic to the team. We wish them every success!”

The Redshaws’ passion for drag racing comes from dad, Chris, who has been obsessed with motorsport racing for as long as he can remember. He supports the trio on the mechanical side, while mom, Tracy, keeps the team in check by overseeing operations, with Candra’s twin sister, Lilly, being responsible for towing her sibling racers in her half scale Land Rover® vehicle.

“I’ve been watching my brothers race for years and gradually I’ve noticed more girls starting to take part,” said 12-year-old Candra Redshaw. “I’m excited to have the chance to show what I can do in the British Junior Drag Racing Championship. Winning the title would be like a dream come true!”

“Drag racing is a way of life for our family and I love the atmosphere at race events when we always seem to be surrounded by friends, cousins, aunties and uncles,” added Candra. “This is my first season competing and I’m looking forward to bringing some girl power to the team. I can’t wait to get out there and give it my best.”
